The bars themselves are great, quiet and solid. But the Thule system of putting accessories on them kinda sucks. It utilizes a slot, the accessories (in my case 2 pairs of kayak cradles) slide in from the ends. Here's the sucky but: you then trim a plastic insert to fill the spaces in the slot. In my case that's 5 pieces per bar. If you want to use the bars without the accessories you need to remove all these pieces, and you'll be left with gaps in the slots where your accessories were, which will presumably whistle now. If you will never use the bars for anything other than the way you first set them up then you'll love them. If you'll want to use them with different accessories, or none at all from time to time, then prepare to have to muck about with them!
